We are the Crystal Gems, except I’m not talking about Steven Universe today because I already talk about Steven Universe a lot.

When I went to the ROM last year we found the crystal room. Well it wasn’t just crystals, but gemstones, gold, pretty stones some that were finely cut and others that still looked like they’d been found in the dirt (though clean of course, this is the ROM after all).

The room was dark, the stones all in glass cases that glittered under the lights that they were under. I think they made it dark so the colours could pop, so you could really see how beautiful the stones were. Maybe I’m like a bird, a magpie or crow or something, one of those corvids that likes shiny things. Of course my sister is the one who really likes things that shine (you should see her wardrobe), I’m more subtle but I still like the shine.

I remember there was an area that was as dark as the room the stones were in only lit by a black light and some of the stones glowed from that. They didn’t shine as such, just glowed eerily like a Halloween decoration. Something you’d only notice as you were turning your head, something you may only notice if you were staring straight at it.

I liked that room with all the stones, how it was hidden, how so many people were attracted to just gazing at the shining rocks. They weren’t necessarily amateur geologists, didn’t care about the type of stones they were, which birth month they may correspond too. It was just the fact that they were pretty, and people like pretty things.
