Haha, I bet all seven of you who read my blog thought I’d forgotten to post today because of the long weekend but I didn’t! I did have to put it on hold of course because I had a Canada Day party to go to yesterday, and since I didn’t have any time to write yesterday or ideas it made sense to wait until Canada Day happened and write about that. On Sunday I finally saw the Incredibles 2 (and I just noticed that that’s the official title of the movie. Not The Incredibles 2 but Incredibles 2 which is really weird to me) with a group of friends. There were nine of us in total, we nearly had an entire row to ourselves in the theatre, and of course it was amazing. The Incredibles has been one of my top favourite Disney-Pixar movies since it came out, I loved the storyline, I loved the characters (especially Violet and Elastigirl!…Okay and Jack-Jack too!) and how each of the family members were shown as a team who worked and fought together, no one in the family outshone anyone else. On Saturday I went to Toronto with my dad and sister to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera at the Princess of Wales theatre in Toronto. I can’t remember when we decided to see it, only that Mirvish called us to tell us the shows coming for the upcoming year and my sister got excited about Phantom and we decided that would be our show of the year. The Tony Awards are the only award shows I really care about. Sure, I watch the Oscars and have learned to appreciate them in the years I’ve started watching them, but the Tony’s are nothing compared to them. For those who don’t know what the Tony Award’s are, they’re an annual awards show that celebrates broad broadway’s best and brightest (actors, directors, lighting and set designers, lyricists and costumers, etc.). Each of the musical’s nominated puts on a piece of their show for those watching to give the audience a taste about why they’re nominated. Sometimes it’s a medley (it’s best when it’s a medley) or sometimes just one song, but just seeing those broadway actors perform is exciting. And one of the best things about the Tony Award’s is that unlike the Oscar’s, they almost always end on time. Continue reading
Normally if I was writing one of my usual “I have nothing to write” posts I’d tell you about my week, as I’ve done twicenow. But my weeks aren’t as exciting as they used to be, not since I’ve been laid off. At least then I was guaranteed to be busy for eight hours five days a week, now I have a lot more time to fill up. Continue reading
I tend to read a lot of books by women writers. Part of this is because I am a woman writer so obviously, part of it is that women writers don’t get as much credit as male writers so I like to make sure I read as many books by women writers as I can, and part of it is that I genuinely enjoy a lot of work by women writers. And as I read more books by women writers and write more myself, I keep seeing a trend pop up. Continue reading
(NOTE: Look, I know Meghan Markle and Kate “technically” aren’t princesses, they’re duchesses. But they’re married to princes and a lot of people consider them princesses, and so to fit with the theme of the article they’re being called princesses.)Continue reading
I don’t know what to write again, which happens from time to time, but I’m not ready to skip a week of blog posts yet. So that means the only thing to do is to have another “A Week in the Life of Sarah” posts, or more simply a new “What’s Going On?” update. Continue reading
This weekend was the HamilTEN Festival in my city. It’s a festival I’ve talked about a bit on here because my ten minute play A Spell for Schoolgirls was accepted into it and I was super pumped/anxious for it. Well, this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were our show days, it came and went so quickly, and now it’s over. Continue reading
